Today is the birthday of Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov — Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, Olympic champion, World Champion, and Hero of Labour of Kazakhstan.

Let us remember the victorious path and bright legacy of our nation's legendary wrestler.

In 1975, Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov became the champion of the Summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR. He won the USSR Championship twice and was a six-time medalist.

He was also a multiple-time champion of Kazakhstan.

In 1980, he earned a silver medal at the European Championships, became an Olympic champion in Moscow, and World Champion!

Today, a Combat Sports Palace in the heart of the capital bears his name, hosting major international tournaments in various styles of wrestling.

Our wish is that Zhaksylyk aga’s shining journey on the mat becomes an inspiration for future generations of wrestlers.
